My current campaign has the players searching for multiple fragments of an ancient artifact. The main portion of the party is currently continuing through the Eldeen Reaches (Eberron) in search of the second fragment. The players wanted wo cycle out a couple of PCs and we had two people join the game as well. So to give the players the party they wanted, two PCs departed to Sharn to research the location of the third piece while the four players and their respective characters continued on after the 2nd piece.

Classic use of some TV / comics side story right in my RPG. The players really digged the idea and we've got some extra adventures I'll need to plan for without "splitting up the party".
